 Reflections

Experience:
To be honest, before I attended the first week of class, I was already nervous when the lecturer, Mr. Vinod, emailed us the things we had to do before the first week started. When I read through the assignment brief, I was intimidated by the workload we had to endure. I was expecting the whole experience of this course to be stressful, and I was right. However, the stress had payed off, I've learned so many things from Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul, they're strict but fair, which are good traits given the circumstances of online learning. Apart from that, getting the chance to go through this course in an online platform is quite beneficial, I have learned how to manage my time wisely and to get used to a "deadline" system every week. Not going to lie, there we're times where I got really frustrated, and I couldn't be satisfied with the work I presented, but I'm glad I pulled through and moved forward. This has been an eye-opening experience where I've learned a lot about the toxic traits I have when it comes to work and of course, typography.

Observations:
I never knew typography played a major in elevating a simple design. With type expression, it really adds more meaning and depth to a design. Before I took the course, typography to me was a "boring" subject, and I've never been so wrong. Other than that, the thought and effort put into designing a font is just admirable, never in a million years would I imagine to create my own font, but I did, sort of. Now, I have a newfound respect and admiration towards font designers.

Findings:
With this course, I've found out that InDesign is a very useful software when it comes to handling large chunks of text and layout. Before this, I've always neglected InDesign, and I never really found a use for it, but now I do. In addition, formatting text blew my mind, I never knew there was a difference between "Enter" and Shift+Enter". With that knowledge, line and paragraph spacing have never been easier. Furthermore, I find animation quite satisfying, throughout the animation processes of this course, I've always anticipated how my animation would turn out after altering it frame by frame. When it's finally animated, the feeling that you get is pure satisfaction, you'll think to yourself "Oh wow, I made it move". Ultimately, this course has taught me a lot, not just about typography, but skills like keeping work organised and untapped passion as well.
